Mengali's expertise, professionalism, efficiency, dependability,
and graciousness is very rare. From our very first, long-distance
phone conversation, I knew that I was in good hands, and that
I could trust Cara to glide me through a very complex process
with ease.
Looking to obtain a mortgage to buy an expensive home in Davis,
CA, when one lives in Lexington, MA, was for my husband and
myself a daunting thought. Our biggest concern was to find a
professional whom we could trust, and who would not surprise
us at closing time with hidden costs, or other penalties of
one kind or another. Cara answered all our questions, even the
most naive ones, promptly and thoroughly, and handled the process
so well that I am grateful to her. I felt that I was dealing
with a trusted friend, not with a professional whom I met only
once.

Now that we are unpacked and our lives are back to being a little more organized, I feel the need to write you a quick note to offer our appreciation for all of your work, patience and advice that you provided to both my husband and me. I also wanted to tell you of our mortgage experience up until the time that we met you:
When we were referred to you we were already frustrated, worried and generally not happy with our whole loan process so far. We were already in the middle of purchasing our first home with a 45 day close of escrow and had decided to take advantage of the internet to find what we thought would be the best loan. You know the saying “When banks complete you win”. We were quoted a great rate from some bank on the east coast and everything seemed to be going as planned until the final days of our escrow.
When we told our agent of our great rate and that we had found it over the internet she explained the down side of using an out of town and for that matter an out of California lender. She was very concerned that if push came to shove we could never sit down and meet with anyone personally. We listened to her advice but still felt like that New Jersey guy was the way to go as we still liked his quoted interest rate best.
Well, 35 days into our 45 day escrow is when the 'fun' started with our New Jersey “When banks compete you win” lender. He told us that he could no longer get us our original loan and interest rate unless we were willing to pay an additional 2 points. This would of been on top of the 1 point that we were already paying. We were obviously beyond frustrated, and felt like the rug had been pulled out from under us. I guess we still wonder if that great rate even existed or if that was just all part of the plan to get us hooked. We felt helpless as we could not walk into his office and understand what went wrong or at least give him a piece of our mind.
Feeling like idiots we called our agent and gave her the news. We figured that there was no way our purchase could be saved and there was the possibility that we could lose our deposit money for good. Our real estate asked us to call your office immediately and see if you could help our situation and predicament. She said she had a great working relationship with you and that if anyone could save the day that it was you. She was 100% correct! My experience with your office was less then 10 days but it was the most pleasant of the whole home buying process. You and your office did everything that you promised and in the time that you promised. Once we received your loan options and estimates we even realized that the previous lender did not even include taxes and insurance as part of the payment he was showing us. Its no wonder his payment looked so good.
I do understand the benefits of shopping on the internet but I now understand, all too well, that I need to limit my internet shopping to shoes and clothes.
